FAQ

What is 4(Four) X(Cross)?

4 cross involves four riders competing on a specially designed course lasting between 25 seconds and 1 minute. Courses can be a mixture of natural and man-made obstacles covering various levels of descent. Obstacles can include rhythm sections, table tops, ski jumps, drop-offs, berm corners and double/triple jumps.

The top UK riders include Steve Peat, Will Longden, Scott Beaumont, Gee Atherton, Dan Atherton, Steve Taylor, Martin Ogden and Dale Holmes, with former world BMX champions Dale Holmes and Scott Beaumont, and world Downhill champion Steve Peat now the top riders in the world’s 4X elite.

The competition starts with riders competing against each other by a series of heats called ‘motos’ with riders competing in three motos before moving on to quarter finals, semi finals and then the final. The riders compete in knockout stages until there are only 4 riders left.

All the events are spread across the Uk so there should be one you, you want to come and race or come along and watch as it said in MBUK just turn up and ride its that simple.

The dates and all the information for the races are on the links above so go explore and we will see you track side.

What is the format of 4X racing?

New this year FOUR Moto format will be in place at all events. All events that have Quarter & Semi-finals will also have a B Final and A final. So positions 1 through to 8 will be decided on a final race.

Here’s the proposed format

A minimum of 4 riders will make a race. If there are less than 4, then the riders will be mixed with the nearest appropriate ability/age class. If there are only 4 riders in a class, the results will be decided over 5 Motos. Equal points over 5 Motos will mean that the 5th Moto will have greater weight. If there are limited female riders, they will be moved into the next boys age category down to race but will still score Series Points for there age.

  • 5-12 riders will go straight into a 4 person final after 4 Motos.
  • 13-24 riders will have semi-finals. This means that there will be a B final and A final.
  • 25+ riders will have quarterfinals, semi-finals, then into B & A finals.
What is Supercorss race?

New this year we have World Cup format racing to the NPS series, that means you get whole weekend of racing using both timed seeding runs and Motos format.

This opens up great way for riders to test themself against all ages of riders. Every one gets 3 timed seeding runs, Trophies for the top three fastest in each category. The top 64 fastest riders then go into a stright knockout in the same format as a world cup race.

This will be very exciting and we are sure it throw up a few surprises with the younger riders showing the more established riders their back wheel!

Start Gate

Every race starts from the purpose built gate, the uses a air ram to shoot the front of the gate down into the floor.

Example of the gate in action, well sort of….

but you get the idea.

Series Points & Moto Points

How the points are worked out for race results.

Below shows how points are won.

Moto Points

  • Result Points
  • 1st – 4
  • 2nd – 3
  • 3rd – 2
  • 4th – 1

The Moto Points are added to the final position points.

  • 1st – 30
  • 2nd – 28
  • 3rd – 26
  • 4th – 24
  • 5th – 18
  • 6th – 15
  • 7th – 12
  • 8th – 10

Maximum points score is 46 points Which is 4 moto wins = 12 points Then winning final = 30 points Total 46.

If you win three motos and last in one = 13 points Then you win the race = 30 Total = 33 points.

Note this year if less then 3 in a class they will be merged with the next category up. They will win there full points depending on their finishing postion in the race.
